Memorial service for Joan Y. Cook, 79-year-old Enid, Okla., resident, will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, 2014, at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at a later date in Enid Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Joan was born Sept. 7, 1935, in Wichita, Kan., to Raymond Arthur and Ava Louise (Colgan) Ashpole and died Monday, Oct. 13, 2014, at her home in Enid.

For over 27 years, she worked as a deputy court clerk for Garfield County.

Joan liked crocheting and could be seen crocheting even in her sleep. For a number of years, she enjoyed helping at Hoover Elementary. But most of all, she took great pride in her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Charles Cook; daughter, Denise Robinson; and brother, Raymond Ashpole.

Joan is survived by her children, Darrell Piper, Joe Piper, Darla Meier, Phillip Cook and Johnna Ridenour; 18 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Gary Ashpole of Eureka, Kan.; sister, Janice Ashpole of Sterling, Alaska; as well as numerous extended family.

In lieu of flowers, a tax deductible donation can be given through the funeral home to Ovarian Cancer Research Fund in Joan’s memory.
