Funeral service for Elsie Irene Marquardt Long Cook, 90-year-old Enid resident, will be 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Enid Cemetery. Irene was born Nov. 3, 1922, in Meno, Okla., to John and Dolly (Wasemiller) Marquardt and died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2013, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center.

The family moved to a farm west of Vance Air Force Base. She graduated from Waukomis High School with the class of 1940. She then attended Enid Business College. She was baptized at Waukomis Methodist Church.

In 1945, she married Willard Long. To this union seven children were born. They were married for 25 years before his passing. Irene owned two restaurants in Waukomis before moving to Enid in 1958. Irene was employed at Gold Spot Dairy for 14 years. In 1984, she married Keith Cook. They met working together tracking inventory for Circle K stores in three states. They retired in 1982. They were married for three happy years before he was called home to his maker.

She was a widower for 19 years and raised six children of whom she was very proud. She loved to fish with her children at ponds. She loved to cook for her family and everyone who stopped by. She made the best Thomas Cake and all who ate it will testify it was the best. She was also famous for her cinnamon rolls, we all stopped by to get a roll. She never had much money but always had enough to send her monthly contribution to Feed the Children, her favorite charity. We were always a very close family and stuck together.

Irene is survived by her children, Benjamin Long and wife Linda, Vickie Long Kahn, Connie Long Peeler, Kandra Long Warner and husband Earl, Gene Long, Rocky Long and stepson, Ronald Cook; 17 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of her children; her first born son, Johnny; and her first born daughter, Karen.
