Charles L. Ashford, 72, 1709 N. Adams, died early Wednesday in a local hospital after a brief illness.

His funeral will be in the Brown Funeral Home Chapel at 4 PM Friday and he will be buried in the Enid Cemetery.

Ashford was born and grew up near St. Jo, Texas. In 1938, he moved to Enid and was employed by the Enid Cemetery for 20 years and later was employed by the Enid Board of Education as custodian for four years before his retirement in 1973.

His wife Myrtle died in 1974. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Jerry Schoonover, La Habra, California, Mrs. Jim Brickell, San Diego, California, and Mrs. Harry Taylor, Wolfforth, Texas; a son, Charles Ashford Jr., Marble Falls, Texas; a brother, Floyd B. Ashford of Enid; two sisters, Mrs. Robert Hutson, Wichita Falls, Texas, and Estelle Ashford, Wichita Falls.
