Emma Vergaline Neil, born October 3, 1918, died January 17, 2010 at the age of 91 after living a wonderful life. The second of seven siblings she is survived by her sisters Margaret Heflin, Carrie Raulston, and Lou Jackson of Wylie, Dallas and Houston, Texas; her three children Nanci Price, Charles Neil and Stephanie Neil of Mustang and Oklahoma City; grandchildren Denyce Price, Shannon May, Shon Price; great grandchildren Dianna May, Tara May and Darin May; great great grandchildren Blayne May and Jai'lynn May of the metro area. Preceding her in death were a son Charles Bruce Neil, husband Charles E. Neil, parents Frank and Grace Lockridge, siblings Roberta Krausse, Keith Lockridge, and Kathryn Lockridge.
A 1936 graduate of Douglas High School, Douglas, Oklahoma, she was a member of the school's State Championship triple court girls basketball team and one of the state's highest scorers. Many years later following a business school education paid for with a pig, she was the Executive Secretary to Oklahoma City Attorneys Hemry and Hemry, Oklahoma City Chamber of Commerce Chairman Stanley Draper Sr., and Oklahoma Corporation Commissioners Wilburn Cartwright, Rex Privett, and Hamp Baker. She retired after a 21 year career in 1987 and spent the remaining active years catching up on charitable service work primarily for her church and enjoying family. The family thanks the wonderful doctors who extended our mother's life beginning with Dr. Parker's diphtheria vaccine during a blinding snow storm in the 1920s and the many OU Physicians who helped extend her life. In lieu of flowers, contributions could be made to your favorite charitable organization or some of Vergaline's favorites: World Neighbors, American Heart Association , and the United Methodist Church. Services will be held Saturday, January 23, 2010 at the Village United Methodist Church, 2501 West Britton Road at 11:00 AM. A burial service follows at 2:15 PM at the Douglas Union Cemetery, Douglas, Oklahoma.
Friends may call at the funeral home Friday 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.
