OBITUARY
G.D. Rummery was born January 25, 1846, in Strongsville, Ohio; died at his home in Drummond, Okla., June 8, 1919, being in his 74th year. He moved from his home in Strongsville, to Muscatine county, Iowa, in the year 1855 with his parents. At the age of 16 ½ years, he enlisted in the Civil war, serving three years and one month in Co. E, 18th Regiment, Iowa Volunteer Infantry. Married in Muscatine, Iowa, to Miss M.E. Cole in the year 1868, she dying October 2, 1878. To this union was born five children, all girls, of which two survive, they being Mrs. C.W. Smith of Drummond, Okla., and Mrs. C.H. Reed of Muscatine, Iowa.
He was married to his present wife November 19, 1879. To this union were born eight children, five boys and three girls, all of which survive him, J.A., G.V., E.R., and C.A. Rummery and Mrs. W.G. Hollingsworth of Drummond; F.J. Rummery of Muscatine, Ia; Mrs. E.L. Moody of Moline, Ill.; and Mrs. C.M. Carey of Eagle, Colo.
He was a good husband and father and his love for the soldier boy and flag has always been strong and never missed a Decoration day in forty years until the last one.
He united with the M.E. church in early life and was in good standing a number of years, which he said he enjoyed as he always had a reverence for God and the word, but for years had been handicapped on account of deafness, which kept him away from religious services. Nevertheless, hopeful and trustful, having nothing laid up against any man, willing to take God at His word.
Services were held in the Advent Christian church, Rev. R.B. Shannon officiating. Those acting as pallbearers were returned soldier boys - they being Jas. Chesnut, Chas. Allen, Guy D. Rusmisel, Thos. L. Jenkins, Roy Cook and Ernest Nixon, and his old comrade, James Downem, carrying the flag in the advance procession from the home to the church.
Card of Thanks . Husband and father, Mr. and Mrs. G.D. Rummery, Mr. and Mrs. James Rummery, Mr. and Mrs. George Rummery, Mr. and Mrs. Emerson Rummery, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Rummery, Mr. and Mrs. William Hollingsworth.
