ENID, Okla. — Funeral service for Harold E. Mears, 88-year-old Drummond resident, will be 2 p.m. today, Oct. 23, 2012, at Salem United Methodist Church, Drummond. The Rev. Garry Vincent will officiate. Bu-rial will follow in Del Norte Ceme-tery under the direction of Hen-ninger-Hinson Fu-neral Home.

Harold was born April 29, 1924, in Lyndon, Kan., to Henry and Nora (Belt) Mears and died Saturday, Oct. 20, 2012, at Hennessey Manor Nursing Home.

He attended schools in Lyndon, graduating in 1942.

After graduating, he came to Oklahoma to work on a harvesting crew. Harold was sent across the road to get water for the crew, and there he met his true love.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army, and after his service, Harold and Nadine were married on Nov. 4, 1945. The couple made their first home in Enid, where Harold was a mechanic. He also drove a truck for Walker Truck Lines and then for Leeway MotorFreight, which became Graves Trucking Line. They later moved to the farm near Drummond. He retired there in 1982.

He was a longtime member of Salem United Methodist Church. He was a lifetime member of the NRA and a founder of the NRA Whittington Center. He was also a member of American Legion. He enjoyed traveling, shooting and repairing clocks.

He is survived by four children, Kathy Thompson and husband Larry of Enid, Charlie Mears and Annette Cink of Drummond, Cheryl Cook and husband Kenny of Waukomis, and Carol Bobbitt and husband Floyd of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren, Angela, Em-ily, Shelia, Kyle, Jonathan and Jessica; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Nadine; two sisters, Pauline and Novella; and one half-brother, Willard.

Memorials may be made to the Church with Henninger-Hinson acting as custodian of the funds.
