Obituary
The death of our esteemed fellow townsman, L.E. McDonald at the University Hospital, Enid, at 11:30, Friday night, came as a sad shock to everybody here. This paper in last week's issue contained notice of an operation there for appendicitis which was performed by Dr. Maybury. But add'l trouble and complications in bowel obstruction followed, from which he was notable to rally.
It was thought, even by members of the family, that his case was progressing favorably, until Friday evening, when a telephone call came summoning his sons to his bedside there, as he was worse. Before they were able to reach him, he had passed away.
A strong, able man, of middle life, with the respect and goodwill of this whole community, where he has resided for many years, successful as a farmer and a man of affairs, esteemed by all for his many sterling and likeable qualities, a long time member of the Odd Fellow's Lodge here, and one of it's most valued workers, with a wife and large family to miss and mourn his loss, his sudden and unexpected death has cast a gloom over the entire community and is a community loss.
Especially does it come as a heavy blow after repeated ill fortune, during the past few months, when one of his grown sons, Frank, was for months critically ill at his home with typhoid. Again during the holiday season, after he and his wife had started on an extended visit among old friends in Kan., he was hastily recalled on account of the critical illness of his son, Arthur, on whom a hasty operation for appendicitis had to be performed to save his life. Under these repeated chastisements, and ill fortune, keen sympathy is felt for the noble wife and afflicted family and everything that neighborly spirit and sympathy could do, has been done to comfort them.
The funeral was held at the Congregational Church at 2 p.m. Monday, Rev. Gray of the Advent Church officiating, assisted by Rev. Grantham.
The interment was at Del Norte. We join with the large circle of friends in heartful sorrow over this great loss, to his home and to the whole community.
