The funeral for Billy Gene Henthorn, 78, will be 1 p.m. Friday at Anderson-Burris Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. John McLemore and Don Angle will officiate. Burial will be in Del Norte Cemetery, Drummond.

He was born Oct. 5, 1927, in Enid to Albert and Lois Wilson Henthorn and died Monday, Sept. 25, 2006, at St. Mary?s Regional Medical Center. He attended elementary school in Enid and moved near Ringwood with his family where he attended Glade country school and graduated from Cleo Springs High School. He served in the Navy Air Corp during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954 aboard the aircraft carriers USS Bon Homme Richard 31 and USS Oriskany 34. He served as an aviation machinist?s mate, third class, attached to Fighter Squadron 124.

He married Dorothy Helen Maidment June 11, 1954, in Pacific Beach, Calif. They made their home in Enid where he worked for Union Equity Cooperative Exchange, retiring after 43 years as superintendent of elevator Y. He was active in Boy Scouts of America and served as Scoutmaster for troop 13. He was a member of Central Christian Church, Sooner Sunday school class, Levis n Lace Square Dance Club and North Enid Lions Club. Surviving are his wife, Doro-thy of the home; one son, Thomas Edwin Henthorn of Mountain View, Calif.; a daughter, Donna Kay Henthorn of Enid; two brothers, Marcus of Enid and Bob of Moore; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
