OBITUARY
Thomas Griggs, born in Orange Co., Indiana, November 20, 1847, died at the home of his son, L.H. Griggs, near Drummond, February 3, 1927, aged 79 years, 2 months, and 15 days.
He was married to Mary J. Carpenter, September 3, 1867. To this union was born two sons and three daughters, all of whom are living except one daughter, Mrs. Maggie Hatfield.
He located on a farm near Arnett in 1899, where he resided until two years ago, when he came to make his home with his son.
He was married to Mrs. Katie King, who now resides at Los Angeles, Calif., in February 1906. Because of failing health, she could not be at his bedside.
Mr. Griggs united with the United Brethren church at the age of 18 and has lived a devout Christian life and spoke of a bright Christian experience.
He was a member of the I.O.O.F. lodge for 38 years, having been a member at Arnett for 25 consecutive years and was eligible to the grand jewel.
Mrs. Griggs has been an invalid for several years and bore his sufferings with very unusual patience and fortitude.
He leaves his wife, his sons, Louis H. of Drummond, and James A. of Gage, his daughters, Mrs. Myrtle Allison of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Nellie Slocum of Pampa, Tex.; fifteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and a host of friends and neighbors.
Funeral services were conducted at the Congregational church at Drummond by Rev. L.L. Kordis. Interment was made in Del Norte cemetery. The I.O.O.F. lodge took charge of the committal service.
