Death of Steven Chestnut

The entire community as well as family were completely shocked Tuesday afternoon to hear of the death of Mr. Steven Chestnut who died of heart failure at about 3:30 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon. Altho he had been failing since having typhoid fever several months ago, he had been able to be around and his condition was not considered at all serious. Having decided to rest, he went to his room and had been resting only a few minutes when death came even without a murmur.

Mr. Chestnut had lived in our community the past eleven years and lived a life that might well be a guide post for others in the pathway along the course of life. He was loyal to his church and to his God and was Superintendent of the Church Sunday School at the time of his death and was an effective Christian worker. While his visible presence is no more on earth, his memory will remain, and always we feel that his gentle spirit, as it treads the azure fields of glory, is still not far away, but waits among the blessed for the homecoming of his loved ones here.

Mr. Chestnut was 60 years of age and leaves a wife and nine children to mourn his loss. All except two will be here to attend the funeral which will be held at the Christian Church this morning at 10:00 o'clock. Chas. at Durham, North Carolina, and Claude at Ft. Logan, Washington, are the two sons who will be unable to arrive in time for the funeral.

OBITUARY

Stephen Abraham Chestnut was born in the state of Kentucky on March 30, 1848. On December 30, 1867, he was married to Mary Butcher of Whitley Co., Kentucky. At about the age of sixteen he publicly accepted Christ as his Saviour and has ever since lived a consistent Christian life, ever taking an active part in Christian work.

He departed this life December 21, 1915, being 67 years, 8 months and 21 days of age. He leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, to whom he had been married forty-six years; nine children, Benjamin F. and W.R. of Oklahoma City; Chas. W. of Durham, N.C.; Claude F. of Ft. Lawton, Wash.; Jas. H. of Douglas, Ariz.; Ancel G., Ova L., Mrs. G.C. Underwood and Mrs. D.E. Messenger of Drummond, Okla. Besides these, two living brothers and other relatives remain.

All who knew him honored ad respected him as a good citizen and a devout Christian gentleman.
