Mary L. and Arthur G. WYSSMAN

Covington Cemetery

December 22, 1920 - January 01, 2019

Celebration of Life Service for Mary Louise Wyssman, 98, of Covington, is 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 5, 2019, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Covington, with Pastor Kenneth Wade and Pastor Christopher Griffith officiating.

Burial will take place at the Covington Cemetery. Arrangements are by Anderson-Burris Funeral Home.

Mary was born December 22, 1920, to Ernest and Lydia (Beopple) Kaiser near Marshall, Oklahoma, and passed away Tuesday, January 1, 2019, at Green Valley Nursing Home, Perry.

She attended Covington Public Schools, graduating in 1938. She went on to attend Enid Business College.

Mary married Arthur G. Wyssman October 13, 1940, and to this union one daughter and one son were born, Eileen and Jerald.

Mary worked at First State Bank of Covington, then as head bookkeeper for the Douglas Co-op Elevator for 30 years.

After her retirement, when most people would consider slowing down, she did the opposite and served as Director of the Tri-County Senior Citizen Center for close to ten years. She spent countless hours volunteering in St. Mary's Hospital Gift Shop from 1987-2013, receiving the Volunteer of the Year Award in 1990 and the Tender Loving Care Award in 2013.

Mary received Jesus Christ as her Savior at a young age. She had a deep passion for sharing His love with everyone she met. She was a long-time member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Covington where she served as Sunday School teacher, treasurer of the Church, and was a member of the LWML.

Mary worked with the Project Philip Bible Correspondence Ministry for several years and always made sure to deliver devotional booklets to individuals in the nursing homes and community that were in need. She was a member of the Hopewell Extension Service Homemakers Group of Douglas.

Mary's legacy of love and dedication to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be what she is remembered most for, along with an open house for cookies and coffee at anytime of the day. She had the most gentle and loving spirit and everyone felt like they were the most important person to her.

Mary is survived by her sister Dorothy Murphy; daughter, Eileen Olmstead, and son, Jerald and Sue Wyssman; grandchildren, Neal and wife Carla Olmstead, Norman and wife Lori Olmstead, Karen and husband Brian Durham, Diedra and husband Patrick Carter, John and wife Amber Wyssman; and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, parents, brother Alfred Kaiser, granddaughter Kay Linn Wyssman, and son-in-law Merritt Olmstead.

The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Green Valley Nursing Home and Companion Hospice for their loving care of Mary, and also to Anderson-Burris for their exceptional service.

Memorials may be made to the St. John's Lutheran Church and Tri-County Senior Citizens Center.
