The funeral for Dorita “Earlene” Ward, 78-year-old Waukomis resident, will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 6, 2014, at Waukomis Christian Church. Pastor Dave Jones will officiate. Burial will follow in Covington Cemetery under direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home. Earlene was born November 3, 1935, in rural Covington to Mike and Edna (Green) Decker and died Thursday, January 2, 2014, in her home in Waukomis, surrounded by her family.
She attended Hayward and Covington schools.
On June 20, 1951, she married Rex D. Ward.
The couple moved a lot in the early years as Rex worked in the oil fields. He then served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and they were stationed at Fort Lewis in Washington state. After the war, they returned to Covington and then, in 1968, settled in Waukomis. He preceded her in death in 1999.
On October 12, 2002, she married Chester Boyce in Waukomis Christian Church, where she was a longtime member.
In her earlier years, she enjoyed bowling and was in a league. She was accomplished at crochet and knitting and enjoyed all craftwork. She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their RV, especially to Texas. Mostly, she enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a caring and giving person.
She is survived by her husband Chet, of the home; her children, Peggy Winchester and husband Bill, Enid, Donna Reyes and husband Reynaldo, Booker, TX, and Randy Ward, Waukomis; stepchildren, Allen Boyce and wife Linda, Castle Rock, WA., Debra Glennie and husband Andy, Woodward, OK., Cathy Mendenhall and husband Arden, Wittmann, AZ, Penny Boyce, Farmington, N.M. and Debra Williams and husband Harry, Panama City, FL; four grandchildren, Ron Winchester, Bison, OK, Jill Martinez, Oklahoma City, Chris Haymaker, Okeene, OK, and Timothy Reyes, Booker, TX; eight great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Mason and Weston Martinez, Grant and Claire Winchester, and Eli, Aja and Gianna Reyes; two sisters, Beverly Bigby and husband Tom and Hazel Daylor and husband Larry; and one brother, Raymond Decker and wife Petty. Also surviving are numerous stepgrandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Rex, son Rex, brother Bill Decker and sister Patricia Phillips.
Memorials may be made through Henninger-Hinson to Hospice Circle of Love or Christian Church of Waukomis.
