FARMER KILLED BY LIGHTNING
Dave Steinard, 33 year old farmer, was instantly killed Wednesday of last week when a bolt of lightning struck him as he was standing in the entrance of a granary on the Kessner farm, two miles north and a half mile east of Covington. He was not found until 8 o'clock Thursday morning.
Apparently the lightning struck the iron track on which the granary door slides, traveled along it to the corner of the building, down the corner then back to a lock which Steinard was holding in his hand.
When found, he was still holding the lock and key, but his hands and arms were badly scorched and his skull was split open, so terrific was the force of the blow. It is known that the tragedy occurred at 6:05 o'clock because a watch he was carrying was broken and the hands pointed to that hour.
The funeral services were held in Covington Sunday afternoon and burial made in the Covington cemetery. Steinard was a bachelor and lived at the farm alone.
He is survived by his father and mother who live three miles west of Garber and by three brothers and three sisters.
