Covington Cemetery


A mass of christian burial for Helen H. Simunek, 93, of Oklahoma City, formerly of Covington, will be 3 p.m. Monday, June 22, 2009, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Burial will be in Covington Cemetery . A wake service will be 6 p.m. today at Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home Chapel. Services are under the direction of Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home.

Helen was born Jan. 18, 1916, in Enid, Okla., the daughter of Anton J. Hromas and Anne (Petrizilka) Hromas, and died Wednesday, June 17, 2009, at St. Ann's Home in Oklahoma City.

She was raised and attended school in Waukomis . She married Jim Simunek on Jan. 17, 1937, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. They farmed at the home place for 13 years until moving to Covington in 1950 and then into Enid in 2000.

She was a devoted homemaker and excellent cook. She and her husband enjoyed fishing and dancing. She also enjoyed traveling to see her family. She loved babysitting children including Westin and Garrett Cassidy.

She was a longtime member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church. Helen was also a member of the Oklahoma Polka Club in Hennessey and the Moose Lodge of Enid.

Helen is survived by one daughter, Carolyn and her husband, Curtis, of Moore; one son, Cletus Simunek and his wife, Donna, of Oklahoma City; five grandchildren, Jimmy Combs and his wife, Chris, of Oklahoma City, Jana Lytle and her husband, Joe, of Oklahoma City, Sean Haffner and his wife, Angela, of Grapevine, Texas, Jeff Simunek and his wife, Cami, of Piedmont, Christy Williams and her husband, Terry, of Owasso; 11 great-grandchildren, Mandi and Kyle Combs, Derek Rush, Cory and Dalton Lytle, Darby and Shepard Haffner, Logan and Meghan Simuek, and Alec and Skylar Williams.

She was preceded in death by her husband, one brother and three sisters.

Memorial contributions may be made to Our Daily Bread with Henninger-Hinson Funeral Home acting as custodians of the funds.
