Covington – The funeral for Fred Avery, 79, will be at 2 PM Sunday in First Baptist Church. The Rev. Mike Riley will officiate. Burial will follow in Covington Cemetery under direction of Henninger – Allen Funeral Home.
He was born February 24, 1921, in Kellyville to Charles and Bessie Atkins Avery and died Wednesday, May 31, 2000, at Integris Baptist Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
During World War I I he served as a medic in Africa and Italy with the Army. On May 6, 1945, he married Geraldine Hearn in San Antonio. They moved to Covington. He worked as a welder for Speed Star and was a member of D. A. V.
He is survived by two daughters, Carolyn Morris of Perry and Judy Griffin of Covington; four sons, Freddie of Hempstead, Texas, Billy, Tommy and Johnny, all of Covington; one sister, Verla Mack of Covington; 18 grandchildren; and 17 great – grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, one son, one grandson and four brothers.
Memorials may be made through the funeral home to the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation for Parkinson's.
