ENID — Funeral service for Joseph "Joe" A. Zelnicek, 80, of Enid, will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bison, with Father Larry Kowalski officiating. Burial will follow in Bison Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home. Military graveside rites conducted by the U.S. Army.

Joe was born Oct. 12, 1929, in Bison, Okla., the son of Joseph Frank Zelnicek and Emma Vculek and died Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2010, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center.

Joe grew up in Bison and graduated from Waukomis High School in 1947, where he was senior class president and lettered in basketball. He also was the star third baseman in baseball.

After graduation, he worked for Bison Co-op.

He married Thelma Williams Sept. 12, 1950. Sunday, they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

In March of 1952, he joined the U.S. Army, serving until February 1954. Following his discharge they moved to Enid, where he worked for Enid Foundry. He then worked for the city of Enid for 37 years. His real passion was farming. He was an avid OU Sooner fan. He belonged to St. Gregory The Great Catholic Church.

He is survived by his wife, Thelma, of Enid; four daughters, Linda Hockmeyer and husband Rick of Enid, Dorothy Cornwell and husband Walt of Enid, Mary Knight of Enid, Barbara Tate and husband Bill of Enid; three sons: Danny Zelnicek and wife Pam of Enid, Tom Zelnicek and wife Jan of Enid, Jimmy Zelnicek of Enid; 13 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and sister, Alice Rother and husband Louis of Okarche.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jerry; brother, Ernest; granddaughter, Andrea; and grandson, Chandler.

Memorials may be made in Joe's memory to the Food Pantry at St. Gregory's Catholic Church.

Funeral service for Thelma Louise Zelnicek, 83, of Enid, will be 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Bison, with the Rev. Father Edward Menasco officiating. Burial will follow in Bison Cemetery under the direction of Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.

She was born April 9, 1930, in Enid to Hubert and Josephine Williams and passed from this life Tuesday, Oct. 22, 2013, in Enid.

She grew up and attended Enid schools, graduating from Enid High School in 1949.

She married Joe A. Zelnicek Sept. 12, 1950. They lived in Hawaii, where Joe was stationed during the Korean War.

They moved to Bison for a short time until moving to Enid, where the couple made their home and raised their family. They were married for 60 years. Joe passed away Sept. 8, 2010.

She enjoyed cooking, sewing, spending time with her family, going to antique shows, OU football games, and above all else was a loving and devoted mother and grandmother.

She is survived by daughters, Linda and husband Rick Hockmeyer, Dorothy and husband Walt Cornwell, Mary Knight, and Barbara and husband Bill Tate; sons, Danny and wife Pam Zelnicek, Tom and wife Jan Zelnicek, and Jimmy Zelnicek; 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; brothers, Larry and Don Williams; and sister, Debbie Crisson.

She was preceded in death by two brothers; two sisters, one a twin, Velma; one son, Jerry; one granddaughter, Andrea; one grandson, Chandler; and one son-in-law, Don Knight.

Memorials may be made in her name to Hospice Circle of Love or Oklahoma Medical Research, Alzheimer’s division, with Brown-Cummings serving as custodian of the funds.
