Agnes J. PEKAREK and Stephen S. PRIBIL

Bison Cemetery

ENID, Okla. - Stephen S. Pribil was born Feb. 19, 1923, in Enid, Okla., to Joseph and Antonia (Vaverka) Pribil. He went to be with his heavenly Father and be reunited with the love of his life on Monday, July 29, 2013, at Golden Age Nursing Home in Guthrie, Okla.

He attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Bison, Okla., and graduated high school from St. Procopius Catholic School in Lisle, Ill., in 1941.

After graduation, he entered the Army Air Corps and served his county for two years.

Once leaving the Army Air Corps, he returned to Bison and began his life in farming and being a carpenter.

He met Agnes Pekarek in November 1946, at the Bison Annual Turkey Dinner. It was love at first sight for Stephen and Agnes. They were married a year later on Nov. 26, 1947, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Okeene.

After their union, they made their home two miles north of Hennessey on the family farm for two years. After two years, they made their home two miles west of Bison, where they would live for the next 60 years.

Stephen had four children, Doris Klutts, Cathy Duffy and Robert and Paul Pribil. As a dad, he was very loving and caring and took much pride in being a father. Stephen taught his children the value of work and taught them tools of the trade that they would use their whole life.

He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph Catholic Church of Bison and the American Legion Post in Enid, Okla. He was a devoted Catholic and said the Rosary daily till the day he died.

Later in life, he took up collecting and restoring toy tractors. He enjoyed helping each year with the turkey dinner at church and making the tea and coffee. Through the years, he enjoyed working in his toy hut, spending time outside, camping and helping take care of the church. He served on the Bison Cemetery board for years and was instrumental in restoring it to the beautiful place it is today.

Better known to his family as "Gramps", he was very proud of his grandchildren and took pride in helping them in any way he could from helping restore houses to babysitting great-grandchildren. Gramps was always there if you needed help.

After his first heart attack in 1988, he took up walking and riding his bicycle. He rode or walked every day till almost the day he died. He never missed a day, rain or shine. He enjoyed attending toy shows, garage sales, and playing bingo at the nursing home. While living at Golden Age Nursing Home the last four years, Gramps and Granny were named King and Queen of the nursing home on Feb. 14, 2010.

He is survived by his three children; daughter-in-law, Sharon Pribil of Hennessey; and four grandchildren, Todd Klutts of North Richland Hills, Texas, and wife Darla, Annie Chadd of Guthrie and husband Ben, Chris Duffy of Kingfisher, Dusty Duffy of Loyal and wife Alecia; three stepgrandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren, Allyson and Abby Chadd, Tyler Klutts, Hailey, Emma and Owen Duffy, and Jenna Johnson; and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, son, brother, four sisters and his parents.

The family would like to thank the staff and owners of Golden Age Nursing Home for their care of Gramps for the past four years. We are truly grateful for all that was done for Gramps.

Recitation of the Rosary will be said today at 6 p.m. and Mass of Christian burial will be 10 a.m. Thursday, both at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Bison.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to Bison Cemetery, with Stittsworth Funeral Service acting as custodian of the funds to 2420 N. Washington, Enid, OK 73701.
