Melvin Leroy Dancer was born on February 7, 1937, in Chickasha, Oklahoma, of John W. Dancer & Nora Ames Dancer. Melvin passed suddenly at his home in Moore, OK on June 25, 2013.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents; parents; stepmother, Celia Dancer, of Clinton, Oklahoma; brother, Donald Dancer, of Reedley, California; sister, Doris Dancer Snider, of Cache, Oklahoma; and wife, Janie Pribil Dancer.

Melvin is survived by his sisters, Patricia Pather, of Spokane, Washington; and Caroline Cole, of Clinton, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Betty Dancer, of Reedley, California; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as scores of friends from TAFB and the members of his parish family at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Moore.

Melvin began a distinguished career in federal service when he was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1959. His many tours of duty took him to Fort Knox, Kentucky; Korea; Fort Sill, Oklahoma; and Germany, where he graduated from NCO school. He also served two tours of duty in Vietnam before retiring from the Army. He was recommended for the Silver Star and received many medals during his long Army career.

He continued his career in federal service at Tinker AFB and was recommended for the Outstanding Civilian Career Service Award in recognition of his distinguished service as a federal employee from 21 Oct 1959 (U.S. Army) to 28 May 2004.

Melvin and his wife, Janie, married in 1968 at Bison, Oklahoma. They lived many places before settling in Moore, Oklahoma, in the early 1980s. They had been married 38 years at the time of her passing on April 4, 2006.

He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and an active member at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church in Moore. He will be greatly missed.

The Vigil Service will be held on Sunday, June 30 at 5 p.m., and the Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 1 at 11 a.m. Both services will be celebrated at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 800 N.W. 5th Street in Moore, Oklahoma.

Services are under the direction of the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel, Moore, OK. -
