On the evening of May 13, as the sun was sinking in the west and the shades of night were being drawn over this vast universe, the angel of death came and removed from our midst a beautiful mother, Mrs. Nannie Cowl. Mrs. Cowl was not only a mother to her own sons but her true mother spirit reached out to all her friends and acquaintances. She will be greatly missed, for caring of others and administering to their needs were her greatest pleasures; she never considered her own delicate health when she could extend a helping hand to those in need of help. She counted her friends as her riches and they were many. Although she has left us and gone to that home where there is no sorrow or pain, memories of her love and many deeds will long linger on in the hearts of those friends who remain behind and who will meet her in that happy reunion when the Son of God comes to gather us to live with Him in eternal blessedness.
Nannie Brown was born in West Virginia on October 29, 1854, and departed this life May 13, 1936, at the General hospital in Enid, having attained the age of 81 years and some months. She was converted at an early age and became a member of the Methodist church, remaining a true Christian to the end of her life. When a child, she went to Ohio where later she was married to Mr. John Cowl. To this union were born two sons, John of the home and S.H. Cowl of Carnegie, Okla. When first coming to Oklahoma, the family resided at Deer Creek, moving to this vicinity about 25 years ago. Mr. Cowl preceded her in death in 1928. She is survived by her sons and three grandchildren, Alma, John and Boyd Cowl of Carnegie, Okla. Funeral services were held at the Dunlavy funeral chapel Friday afternoon with Rev. Smith of the First Methodist church conducting the services and the remains laid to rest in the Bethany cemetery. (The correspondent was assisted by Mrs. Cora Nelson in compiling this obituary).
