Alexander John (A.J.) Wassenmiller, 88, loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, passed away January 10, 2004 at his home in Palm Desert, California. He was born in Shattuck, Oklahoma on March 28, 1915 to John Frederick and Katharine M. (Laubhan) Wassenmiller. He lived in Shattuck throughout his high school years.

A. J. married Pearl Eva Jackson on October 27, 1938. They were blessed with three children: daughters Carol Gene and Jonnie L., and son, John David. The family moved to Woodward, Oklahoma where Mr. Wassenmiller created several businesses to provide for his family. During World War II, Mr. Wassenmiller fought honorably for his country. Stationed primarily in San Diego, he served as a signalman in the United States Navy. In 1955 he moved his family to Southern California and soon became the Real Estate Manager for Tietz Construction then obtained his real estate brokers license and opened his own real estate business. He retired at the age of 55.

A. J. accomplished becoming a 32nd degree Mason and also received many awards for “Top Salesman” in real estate. He enjoyed cooking his special recipe for BBQ sauce and always provided an outboard motorboat for his family’s pleasure. In addition, he loved his hobby of golf until his time of death.

Mr. Wassenmiller was preceded in death by his parents, John and Katharine Wassenmiller and sister, Ophelia Wassenmiller Nobles.

Those left to cherish his memory are daughters, Carol Gene Wassenmiller of Shepherd, Montana and Jonnie L. Pasco of Linden, Arizona; son, John David Wassenmiller of Susanville, California; sister, Alvana McDaniel of Millington, Tennessee; five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, and other family and friends.
