Dorothy Cleota Stevens Schickedanz , 92 year old resident of Ellis County, passed away on November 24, 2016 at Shattuck Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, November 30, 2016 in the Billings Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in the Fargo Cemetery.

Dorothy was born on July 2, 1924 in Fargo, Oklahoma to Herbert Earl and Lottie May Stalter Stevens. Dorothy attended Fargo Schools until her marriage to Ray Mason Schickedanz on Feb. 10, 1943 in Lakeland, Florida. Dorothy was one who loved to learn and wanted to be a teacher and share her love of education. After Ray and Dorothy moved back to Ellis County to take over the farm and raise their children, she started taking classes from NWOSU until she was able to graduate from college in May of 1986.After getting her degree in Library Science and High School English, Dorothy taught at Fargo Schools and was the librarian there. She later also taught at Mooreland High School. Dorothy was asked to put in the library system at W.S. Key Correctional Facility in Ft. Supply, OK where she was able to help many with their continuing education and help provide books and other reading material for the inmates.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Ray, her daughters Genta Marie Schickedanz and Ann (Schickedanz) Charmasson, son David and grandson Travis, her parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.

She is survived by sons Steven Schickedanz and wife Kay of Dumas, Texas, John Schickedanz of Williston, North Dakota; daughter Jane White and husband Steve of Fargo; son-in-law, Mick Charmasson and wife Karen of Woodward; ten grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Dorothy was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Fargo, the Daughters of the American Revolution, Red Hat Society, Ellis County Extension Homemakers and the Friday Club.

Dorothy had several passions in which child education and libraries were among them. She liked to paint, do handwork, decorate cakes, grow geraniums and garden. Dorothy loved to play the piano and she enjoyed traveling and visiting with relatives and friends. Dorothy loved her children, grand children and great grand children. She always remembered their birthdays and kept up on what they were doing.

In lieu of memorial flowers, please make donations to Fargo School Library, the Gideon’s or any other organization of your choice with the Billings Funeral Home accepting the contributions on behalf of the family.
