Graveside: 11:00 AM Monday, December 14th, 2015 Fargo Cemetery On the afternoon of December 9, 2015, Wanona Larkey departed this life to join her holy family. She passed away at approximately 5: P.M. at Grace Living Center in Bethany, Oklahoma, surrounded by loving family, friends, caring nurses and staff of Grace Living and Good Shepard Hospice, and holding the hand of one of her granddaughters.

Wanona was born in Fargo, Woodward County, Oklahoma on July 26, 1932. She was the third child of Worthy E. and Bertha M. Teeters (Stewart), who along with her two sisters (and their husbands) , Elsie May Teeters Crouse and Naomi Teeters Stewart, proceeded her in death.

Wanona spent her childhood and young adulthood in Fargo, Oklahoma, eventually moving to Shattuck, Ok. then Miami, Texas, and returning to Fargo to rear her three sons, Craig, Mark and Brad, (from her December 16, 1948 marriage to Edwin L. George in Lipscomb County, Texas) to be near her mother and stepfather (Bertha and Claude Stewart), as well as Bertha’s sister, Gladys George, nephews Eddie and Dwight Crouse, and numerous other relatives in the Woodward County area.

She married Chad Donovan Larkey in Woodward, Woodward County Oklahoma on November 20, 1966 and relocated to the new family’s home in Mooreland, Oklahoma. After Chad’s death in March 1987, she relocated to the Bethany, Oklahoma region to be near her son, Brad, and his family. Her life journey ended in Bethany after living there for about 20 years.

For over 30 years, in both Mooreland and Bethany, Wanona worked in the nursing field, specializing in geriatric care. She particularly enjoyed working with elderly providing comfort and nursing them back to better health. She was especially diligent to make sure her patients in long term care facilities did not feel alone or abandoned. In the last part of her career, she switched to working in church day care centers in Bethany, where the parents of the children in her charge expressed great gratitude for the care and attention she showered upon their children.

Wanona Larkey is survived by her three loving sons and their spouses: Craig and Rosalie George of Annville, Pennsylvania; Mark and Diane George of West Monroe, Louisiana; Brad and Cindy George of Yukon, Oklahoma. She has six grandchildren: Michael Warner of Jacksonville, Florida; Devin George of Bartlesville, Ok.; Nikki George Metcalf of Woodward, Ok.; Bradley George of Sayre, Ok. ; Megan George and Mikayla George of Yukon, Ok. Additionally, she is survived by six great grandchildren and other nieces and nephews including David Stewart and Shirley Stewart of Larned, Kansas and Linda Stewart Childers of Wichita, Kansas.

Graveside services will be held at the Fargo, Ok. Cemetery on Monday, December 14, 2015 at 11: A.M. with the Reverend Phillip Davis and Wanona’s nephew, Eddie Glenn Crouse attending. Final arrangements are under the direction of Billings Funeral Home, Woodward, Ok. Condolences can be sent there.

As Wanona was a longtime supporter of the Boy Scouts of America, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to Boy Scout Troop #103 of Oklahoma City, the troop that her son, Brad, has been Scoutmaster of for over 33 years. The family expresses special gratitude to the warm and loving care offered Mrs. Larkey in her final days by her friend Almira Zimmerman and all her other close and attentive friends who resided with her, brought her food when she was too weak to cook, and who all rooted with her for the Oklahoma City Thunder at Baptist Village in Oklahoma City where Wanona and her friends lived for over --ten years. They are also grateful to Grace Living Center, Bethany, and Good Shepard Hospice, Oklahoma City, for their combined care, empathy, and support during Mrs. Larkey’ s final years.
