Lela Gertrude Underwood Barton

Lela Gertrude Underwood Barton, daughter of Henry and Hepsie Green Underwood, was born June 15, 1909, at Roll, Oklahoma. She passed from this life July 17, 1992, at Edmond Memorial Hospital in Edmond, Oklahoma, at the age of 83 years.

Lela was united in marriage to Jess Barton, on December 30, 1934.

They lived around Arnett all their lives, where they raised their family of seven children.

Lela was a devoted Christian, and she raised her family to be good Christians.

Lela lived the past two years at the Timberlane Manor nursing Home in Edmond.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jess, and one son, Joe.

Lela leaves to cherish her many memories six children, Frank Barton, and his wife, Lois of Robstown, Texas; Bill Barton and his wife, Sheila, of Brookfield, Missouri; Nelda Lee and her husband, John of Casa Grande, Arizona; Pat Carmichael and her husband, Kenneth, of Ocola, Iowa; Sharon Milner and her husband, Dwight of Kingfisher, Oklahoma; one brother, Robert Underwood of Winlock, Washington; five sisters, Naomi Ford, of Chehalis, Washington; Hallie Carey of Cheyenne, Oklahoma; Maye Gantz of Arnett, Oklahoma; Wretha Thorne of Childress, Texas; and Doris Bucher of Perryton, Texas; 20 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends and neighbors who will miss her deeply.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 20, 1992 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Arnett, Oklahoma with Rev. Roger Maddox officiating.

Interment was in the DeBolt Cemetery, with Mason Funeral Home of Shattuck, handling the arrangements.
