Jesse Joseph Barton

Jesse Joseph Barton was born September 15, 1905, at Carter, Oklahoma. He was the fourth of eight children born to James Madison and Della Francis Joshlin Barton.

He passed from this life on Saturday morning, Mar 13, 1978, at the age of 72.

Jess spent his early childhood in and around Carter. In 1924, he moved with his family to Ellis county to a farm south of Arnett.

On December 30, 1934, he married Lela Underwood from the Foll community. The couple made their home on a farm south of Arnett where they reared their family of 3 boys and 4 girls. Jess and Lela moved from the farm to Arnett in 1971.

In the fall of 1934, Jess was baptized into the Pinkston Baptist Church as a public profession of his faith in Jesus Christ as Saviour.

At the time of his death, he was a member of the First Baptist Church of Arnett.

Jess was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

He is survived by his wife, Lela; by his children, Frank Barton and wife Lois of Robstown, Texas; Bill Barton and wife, Nina of Brookfield, Missouri; Joe Barten and wife Arlyce of Brookfield, Missouri; Nelda Lee and husband John of Pampa, Texas; Pat Carmichael and husband Ken of Sheffeld, Alabama; Sharon Milner and husband Bill of Edmond, Oklahoma; and Carol Moore and husband Dub of Arnett; and twenty grandchildren.

He is also survived by two sisters and two brothers, Edna Daniels and Katie Clark, both of Arnett; and John Barton and Woodrow Barton, both of Muskogee, Oklahoma.

Funeral services were conducted, May 16, 1978 at First Baptist Church of Arnett. Interment was in the Debolt Cemetery.
