Charles Dennis Day, 82-year-old resident of Leedey, OK, passed from this life on December 2, 2016 in Elk City, OK. Charles was born December 13, 1933 in Trail, OK to George Dennis Day and Bertha Mildred (Twyman) Day. He was the youngest of four boys, Bobbie Gene Day, Edward Leon Day, and Donald Lee Day. He was raised in the Trail community, attending school in the Trail School until its closing and graduating from Leedey High School on May 18, 1951. Charles liked working with animals and attended Oklahoma State University and graduated with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He was a member of the 1954 Livestock Judging Team at OSU that won the Chicago International Livestock judging in Chicago, Illinois. Upon graduating from OSU, Charles returned home to the trail area helping his dad Denny Day with the farm. In 1957 he joined the Army and did his basic training at Fort Chaffee, Arkansas. Following an honorable discharge from the Army, Charles served in the Army Reserve until March of 1963.

He moved with his parents west of Leedey, where he helped his dad raise hogs and cattle. He didn’t especially enjoy working with hogs and eventually got into the registered Hereford business, which he enjoyed very much and received several awards and ribbons for his prize Hereford cattle. He enjoyed riding horses, hunting quail with his brothers, and watching OSU football. Charles also enjoyed the times when his brothers and or nephews and niece came to visit and help! He also enjoyed his dog, Musty, who was a faithful friend and companion.

Charles was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Leedey and very faithful to support the church. He worked with the youth and taught an Adult Sunday School Class. He enjoyed Bible studies and was a member of the Gideons at one time. His church family was very important to him.

Charles was preceded in death by his father and mother, two brothers, Bobbie Day and Eddie Day, one nephew Chuck Day, and one sister-in-law Dorotha Day.

He is survived by one brother, Don Day and wife Sarah of Urbana, Illinois; two sisters-in-law, Betty Day and Lola Day; one niece, Cheryl Schweitzer and husband Eric, four nephews Keith Day and wife Gail, Dennis Day and wife Jackie, Dan Day and wife Betty, and Pat Day and wife Suzanne; thirteen great nieces and nephews and a host of extended family and friends.
