Lou Emma Smith Chewey of Colcord, Oklahoma died at 9:37 p.m., Tuesday, May 27, 2008 at Muskogee Regional Hospital, Muskogee, Oklahoma. She was 60.

Lou Emma was born July 23, 1947 in Delaware County, Oklahoma to Samuel and Lucy (Tehee) Smith. She and Alvin Lee Chewey celebrated 35 years of marriage before in passed away on May 27, 2006, exactly two years before Lou Emma. Mrs. Chewey was a life-long member of Delaware County, a proud member of the United Keetoowah Band of the Cherokee Nation, and a member of the Clouds Creek Baptist Church in Colcord. Lou enjoyed going to church, gospel singings, family reunions, and yard sales.

Lou was preceded in death by her parents, Sam and Lucy Smith, one son, Nathan Jay Smith and two brothers, Ed Smith and Frank Smith.

Lou raised three sons, Calvin Chewey and Wilfred Chewey both of the home, and Willie Chewey of Jay; one grandson, Stevie Chewey; one granddaughter, Shaylou Chewey of Lindsay, Oklahoma; and a number of nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, June 2, 2008 at New Clouds Creek Church at Colcord with Pastor Russell Feeling and Stanley Grass officiating. Interment will follow in O’Field Cemetery east of Jay. Pallbearers will be Derek Saunders, William Chewey, Cleve Owens, Tommy Foreman, Jess Jones, and Chandler Wolf. Honorary Pallbearer will be Kendall Little.
