Lorene May Brotherton Zimms was born July 1, 19221 in Pamona, Missouri to Martin and Stella Luther Brotherton. She passed from this life on December 23, 2005 at the age of 84 years.

Lorene lived in Pamona, Missouri, El Reno and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma as well as Wichita, Kansas. She attended school at El Reno Midland School.

On August 17, 1944 Lorene married Floyd Reese Zimms. Their marriage was blessed with the birth of two children, Marilyn Kay and Floyd Martin. The family lived in Oklahoma City before moving to the farm near Hammon, Oklahoma.

Lorene was baptized in July of 1953 at the Moorewood Missionary Baptist Church. She was a faithful member and participated in the WMU and as a Sunday school teacher.

Lorene was a farmer's wife and took pride in her abilities to cook, sew, crochet, and garden. She enjoyed writing poetry for many of the showers that were held in the church.

Lorene was preceded in dearh by her husband, Floyd Zimms; her parents, Martin and Estella Brotherton; a sister, Dorothy Victorene Holland; and a brother, Wilber Bryan Brotherton. Those surviving to cherish her memory are her chikldren, Marilyn Kay Gwartney and husband Jimmie of Earlsboro, Oklahoma and Floyd Martin Zimms and wife Lynda of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; by six grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, and one great grandchild; by a brother-in-law, Elmer Orville Zimms of Canute, Oklahoma; and by other family and many friends.

Services were held Wednesday, December 28, 2005 in the Moorewood Missionary Baptist Church with interment following in the Moorewood Cemetery, Custer County, Oklahoma. Services arranged by Shaw Funeral Home, Leedey, Oklahoma.
