Wake services for Evelyn Gayle Highwalker-Miles were held Monday, June 7, 2004 at 7:00 p.m. in the Hammon Assembly of God Church Youth Center. Funeral services were held Tuesday, June 8, 2004 at 1 p.m. in the Hammon High School Auditorium, officiated by Rev. David Flick and Rev. Lawrence Hart. Burial followed in the Hammon Indian Mennonite Cemetery under the direction of Stanley-Lee Funeral Home.

Evelyn Gayle Highwalker-Miles was born to Edwin and Margie Belt Pewo on April 16, 1959 in Hammon and died Thursday, June 3, 2004 in her home in Hammon.

Evleyn was raised in Hammon and graduated from Hammon High School in 1977.

She was married to Donald Miles, Sr. in December 1977 in Hammon.

She was a member of the Indian Baptist Church and was also a strong believer in the Native American Church.

She served on the J.O.M. Committee.

She was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Minnie Miles; father-in-law, John Miles; and her grandparents, John and Polly Belt.

Survivors include her husband, Donald of the home; three daughters, Donita and husband Jeremy Phillips of Elk City; Roseann Jo Miles and Candi Miles; two sons, Charles Highwalkwer and Donald Miles, Jr., all of Hammon; her parents, Edwin and Margie Pewo of Hammon; her sisters, Johnnie Sue Greeley and husband Clarence of Hammon; Virginia Heimer of Elk City; and Mark Heimer of Minnesota; Kimberly Tunnell and husband, Richard of St. Louis, Missouri; Edwina Pewo-Bullcoming and husband, Wilbur of Hammon; Pollie Gooodman and husband, John of Mantoville, Minnesota; her brothers, Benny Highwalker, Jr. and wife, Mary Ann of Hammon; Tyrone Pewo and wife, Loris of Elk City; Kenneth Pewo of Hammon; Leslie Pewo of Columbus, Ohio; and Richard Pewo of Ada; three grandsons and one granddaughter.
