Maxine was born in Drumwright, Oklahoma to Orville and Margaret Dutton. The family of 4 daughters moved to Merced, CA in 1934. There she met and married the one and only love of her life, Raymond Scholl. They with their family of four children moved to Bakersfield, CA in the summer of 1943 where they then reached supposed perfection with their 5th and last child.

At the age of 42 Maxine lost her loving husband. With 3 remaining teenagers she was forced to work for the first time. If you can recall Baker St. being the center of town, you would have met Maxine. She held jobs at Cornet's, Trend of Fashion, and Ben Franklin's all located on Baker St. Her most famous, recognizable face would have been from her many years located at the corner of Baker and Kentucky St., where she worked for Ted Mill's Liquor Store. The brown brick building that was torn down not long ago.

As a child we would walk home with Grandma after what I'm sure was a very long day, you would have never known it. She still had what it took to show enthusiasm for our presence and also the stamina to make us walk the 3 block strip, hand-in-hand, and completely in step, with no room for goofing off! Looking back, it almost seems like a picture of Mayberry.

She retired in 1987 and enjoyed cooking, which she did very well. Her retirement brought an added bonus of closeness between her and her great grandchildren, whom she practically lived for later in her life. Grandma stayed in very good health up to her 80s. She loved shopping; especially during the Christmas season. She could shop with the best of them! To top the day/night off the highlight would be a tour of Christmas lights. She loved her dog, Sparkle who she is now reunited with.

Maxine was preceded in death and will be joining, her parents, two sisters, great granddaughter, Ashley Castle; son James Scholl and her husband, Raymond Scholl. She is survived by her children: Chris Scholl, Orville & wife Donna Scholl, daughter-in-law, Julie Scholl; Margaret & husband Larry Langdon; and that supposedly perfect child, Nancy & husband Ron Castle. Her sister, Lorena & husband Eddie Zachery, 17 grandchildren, and 26 great grandchildren.

The family would like to thank the loving staff of Emmanuel Convalescent for the wonderful care that Maxine received during her stay, with special thanks to Dana and Flo.

Visitation for Maxine D. Scholl will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles St.) on Tuesday evening, May 4, 2004 from 5-8 p.m. and graveside services will be held at Greenlawn Cemetery (River Blvd.) on Wednesday afternoon, May 5, 2004 at 3:00 p.m.

Our mother and grandmother was dearly loved. She had a fierce love and devotion for her family & friends that allowed us the freedom and security to venture off, while knowing she was there for us, no matter the time or place. She will be greatly missed by us all.
