FRANCES GEORGIA [SMITHERMAN] ROTRAMEL
Graveside service for Frances Georgia Rotramel, 92, former Chickasha resident, will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 9, 2005 at Fairlawn Cemetery, Chickasha.
Frances Georgia Rotramel was born August 9, 1912 in Alabama and passed away June 6, 2005 in Gunter, Texas. Frances moved to Oklahoma with her family as a teenager.
She met and married her husband, Earl Rotramel, in Drumright, Oklahoma in 1933 and later lived in Chickasha for 45 years before moving to Van Alstyne in 1990, after Earl's death, to be near her daughter, Shirley. Frances lived at Hilltop Haven Nursing Home in Gunter, Texas for the past five years.
She loved feeding, watering and watching birds. She had a soft spot for all animals, especially cats. She enjoyed cooking and eating good food and was still clipping recipes until recently. She loved gardening and couldn't pass a flower pot without testing the soil to see if it needed a drink.
One of her favorite outings was visiting the Arboretum in Dallas to see the flowers.
In her younger years she liked to play bridge, travel with friends and helped with the war effort during World War II.
Frances was a member of the First Baptist Church of Chickasha for 45 years and a member of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed keeping up with current events and politics. She was also an avid sports fan and especially loved baseball preferring the Dodgers and Braves. Frances had a quick wit and wonderful sense of humor that her friends and family will very much miss.
Frances was preceded in death by her mother and father M. C. and Ethyl Smitherman, brother Dewel Smitherman and sister Eloise Patterson.
She is survived by daughter Shirley Houx and husband John, grandson Greg Houx, his wife Phyllis and their sons Parker and Brian, and granddaughter Janie James, her husband Rob Gilbreath and their children Lily and Angus.
Interment will be in the Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Sevier Funeral Home.
