DAVID CUSTER CAPPS
Services: Friday, Dec. 5, 2 p.m.
Services will be held on Friday, December 5, 2003, at The Assembly Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 5501 E. Brundage Ln., Hall #D, at 2:00 p.m.
David Custer Capps was born July 24, 1928, and passed away December 1, 2003, in Bakersfield, CA.
David is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jean; daughter, Sherry Osivandzadeh and husband, Mac of Bakersfield: son, Jack Capps and wife, Cathy of Bonanza, OR; daughter, Kathy McCaa and husband, Cliff of Bakersfield; son, Mark Capps of Bonanza, OR; one sister, Juanita Rae of Claremore, OK; 10 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
A gifted inventor, engineer, and mechanic, he held patents on everything from fuel injection systems, to hydraulic components, to agricultural equipment. He worked in the oil drilling industry for many years, and for the last 16 years as owner of CM Custom Automotive with his son-in-law, Cliff McCaa. David loved traditional country and western music. He loved to get together with family and friends to sing and play his Martin guitar.
The most important thing in David's life however, was his relationship with Jehovah God. Back in 1936, two Jehovah's Witnesses began a Bible study with his parents in the small town of Walters, OK. Even though very young, David recognized that this was indeed "the truth." He dedicated his life to Jehovah, and in 1938, at the age of 10, symbolized it by water baptism in a small pond outside Walters. Over the decades David served as an Elder in Congregations all over California. He had few rivals in Bible knowledge and understanding. As a result of the Kingdom preaching and disciple making work of him and his wife, Jean, dozens of individuals have dedicated their lives to serving the true God Jehovah.
It had been David's life long hope to live and be an eye witness of the coming Great Tribulation and the Battle of Armageddon. To see the deliverance of Jehovah's people, to share in the sanctification of his name. As the Bible tells us however, "time and unforeseen occurrences befall us all" nevertheless, his family and friends have hope of an early resurrection for David in the coming earthly paradise, that God has promised. Even though David was of the "Other Sheep" or earthly class, we feel that the Apostle Paul's words at 2 Timothy 4:7&8 are appropriate.
David was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, spiritual brother, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to all of David's friends, brothers and sisters and his care giver, Mary Lou Johnson of Odyssey Hospice, for their love and kindness in these last days.
