Betty Jean [Sherrin] Hooks Henderson

Dates:
Birth date: May 11, 1933
Death date: February 21, 2014

Betty Jean [Sherrin] Hooks Henderson was born on May 11, 1933 in Calvon, OK. She died on February 21, 2014 in Oklahoma City, OK with her family at her side.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, February 24, 2014 in the Whinery-Huddleston Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation is scheduled for Monday morning from 10:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the funeral home.

Betty was raised by her American Indian grandmother LouLou Lovitt with help from her stepfather, Mitt Taylor.

She spent most of her life in the Lawton area where she raised her children. Betty was active in not only her children's lives, but in numerous young people's lives. She coached the Lawton Road Runners softball team for many years, developing many tough girls into winners with a positive attitude and the playing skills helping them to become state champions on several occasions. Betty's work with these girls prompted the City of Lawton to ask her assistance in developing a youth center, and to help establish programs for senior citizens, the handicapped, and young people in the area. She worked tirelessly until eventually there was no denying she was indeed tired.

Betty moved to Oklahoma City to be closer to her son Jackie and daughter Reanda's families.

She was preceded in death by her mother Mattie and step-father Mitt Taylor; her grandmother, LouLou Lovitt; and three brothers. Survivors include three children, Tamara Kendall of Florida, Reanda Robinson and husband Larry, and Jackie Hooks, all of Oklahoma City; grandchildren, Chante Kendall, Michelle Meinhold and husband Tim, Terry Schnitzler and husband Tom, Nikki Cain and husband Mark, Bruce Dial, Cherie Robinson and Jamie Lynn Madinglee, great grandchildren, Breana, Trevor John, Jessica, Victoria and Zachary Alexis and husband Junior, Timothy, Samuel, Gagie, TyLeena, Titus, Emily, Jamie; 2 great great grandchildren, Andrea and Leonardo; and a brother, Homer Taylor, and a sister, Iva McNamara and best friend Glynna Howard.
