Mary Alice Maddox

Mary A. Maddox, a member of the Comanche Tribe, was born on August 11, 1920 to Dewey and Julia [Hernasy] Maddox on their allotment at Mountain Park, OK. She died on March 30, 2013 in Lawton, OK surrounded by her devoted family.

A funeral service is scheduled for 1:00 PM on Thursday, April 4, 2013 at the Post Oak Mennonite Church in Indiahoma, OK with Pastor Loyed Fultz, Joe Lonetree, and Wallace Coffey, officiating.

Interment will follow at Post Oak Cemetery under the direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service. Wake services will be held at the church starting at 7:00 PM on Wednesday and continuing until sunrise Thursday morning.

Ms. Maddox was raised by her grandmother, Osahkenah, after her mother's death. Many of her summers were spent surrounded by her brother and her family's Hernasy, Mihecoby and Pahdapony brothers.

She attended Ft Sill Indian School, St Patrick's School, and graduated from Snyder High School. Ms. Maddox then enrolled in nurses training and started a career that spanned in excess of 42 years working with BIA and Indian Health Service hospitals in both nursing and nutrition fields.

After her retirement, Ms. Maddox enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, visiting friends and spending time with her family, especially fixing those wonderful meals her grandchildren loved (no lumpy gravy!)

She was a lifetime member of Post Oak Mennonite Church, and was the oldest member; she was also devoted and firm believer in tithing.
