Willa Mae [Ketner] Blythe

Birth date: January 21, 1924
Death date: May 31, 2014

Willa Mae [Ketner] Blythe was born on January 21, 1924 in Anadarko, OK to George and Alice [Lancaster] Ketner. She died on May 31, 2014 in Lawton, OK at the age of 90.

Willa was raised and attended school in Anadarko.

She married Carl Blythe on October 31, 1937 in Anadarko and assumed the role of minister's wife, mother and homemaker at the young age of 13. They were called to Walters in 1955 and then to Lawton in 1960. In addition to her role as wife and mother, Willa worked for the civil service 28 years and taught Sunday school for over 20 years.

In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, raising canaries, painting and poetry. Her home was the gathering place for the entire family on most holidays and special occasions because of her cooking skills. Her turkey and dressing, mashed potatoes, cornbread, and pineapple creme pies were legendary with many of the family members using her recipes for their families today. Willa also excelled in needle crafts, providing hand stitched quilts made from her own designs for every family member and some friends as well.

Her entrepreneurial spirit, Christian way of life, and ability to show her love for her family will be missed by everyone that knew her.

Willa was preceded in death by her parents; husband Carl; children, Dale Blythe and Lillian Fern Denmark; as well as all of her brothers and sisters.

Survivors include two sons, Carroll Blythe and wife Linda of Walters, and Carl Blythe and wife Rose of Elgin; a daughter, Lisa Blythe of Walters; grandchildren, Cindy Watson and husband Patrick of Denton, TX, Jeff Blythe and wife Javhlan of Pagosa Springs, CO, Kimberly Trimble and husband Mark of Tulsa, John Winfree and wife Amy, Carl Winfree and wife Kensie, Kyle Winfree, and Bradley Winfree, all of Walters; great grandchildren, Ashlee, Travis, Trista, Katelyn, Nathan, Jake, Traylee, Bennett and Troy John; a son in law, Mahlon (Denny) Denmark, and many friends she has made through work and church over the years.
