James Earl Adams

James Earl "Peacemaker" Adams, 71, passed away on Monday, December 2, 2013 in Lawton, Oklahoma.

James was born February 15, 1942 to Bufford Adams and Chorine Stover in Wellington, Texas. Soon after, they relocated to Lawton where James attended Dunbar Elementary and Douglas High School.

On October 19, 1957 he married Marvel Jo Brewster in Lawton.

James was employed by the City of Lawton/Fort Sill, Lawton Public Schools, and Lawton Housing Authority. For as much as he enjoyed working, he also enjoyed serving in his community. In 1989 the City of Lawton publically recognized James for his outstanding efforts in reducing the crime rate in the local community known as Lawton View.

James was a member of the traveling gospel singing group from the early 1970's through late 1980's. In addition to these activities, he took pleasure in coaching both football and basketball, playing golf, fishing, and spending quality time with his family.

James is preceded in death by his son, Danny Adams; his parents, Bufford and Chorine; four sisters, Jenny Stover, Arvella Stover, Ellerine Stover, and Mary Adams.

James is survived by his wife Marvel of Lawton; two daughters, Loretta Guice and her husband Petree Guice, and Jacqueline Smith; three sons, James Adams Jr., Marvin Adams, and John Adams and his wife Terri Adam;, one brother, Ray Grats; one sister, Jo Ann Grats; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and three Godsons, Michael Carr, Otis Richard, and Lacy Green.

The family of James Adams wishes to extend our sincere thanks to all family members, friends, and organizations for their prayers, condolences, flowers, and cards. Visitation:
