Archie Roger Jenkins


Birth date: March 27, 1945
Death date: January 22, 2008

Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm Friday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Chaplain (CPT) Gary Fukes, Fort Sill officiating.

Sergeant Major Jenkins died Tuesday in a Lawton hospital.

Burial with Full Military Honors will be in Post Cemetery, Fort Sill, Oklahoma.

He was born March 27, 1945 in Sutter Creek, CA. to Marion Archie and Eva Evelyn [Cornwell] Jenkins.

He attended local schools in Williams, CA.

He later entered the US Army where he served three separate tours in Vietnam with the Special Forces, and was assigned to military bases in Washington D.C., Fort Ord, CA., Germany, Salt Lake City, UT., Germany, Fort Polk, LA., Fort Bragg, NC. and Fort Sill, OK. He retired from the military after 28 years of dedicated service on June 30, 1991. Among the numerous awards and honors he received were the National Defense Service Medal with Service Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Second Oak Leaf Cluster, Vietnam Service Medal with Silver and Bronze Stars, Army Good Conduct Medal-9, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon-3, Overseas Service Bars-4, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, Combat Infantryman Badge, NCO Professional Development Ribbon-4, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Parachutist Badge and the Legion of Merit.

After his retirement he attended Cameron University where he graduated with honors with a Bachelor's Degree in Sociology in the spring of 1994. He then proceeded to go to work for the Department of Veterans Affairs in Muskogee where he worked as a field investigator and later as a rating specialist. He retired from the VA after twelve years. During that time he fought tirelessly and diligently for the rights and dignity of his fellow veterans.

Sergeant Major Jenkins wed Deborah Dean in Leesville, LA. on December 20, 1983. They later made their home in Meers until they bought their dream home in Muskogee where he was an avid hunter and outdoorsman.

He is survived by his wife Debbie, daughter and son-in-law Anne and Jason Neugebauer, son and daughter-in-law Bill and Kelly Jenkins and a step-son and daughter-in-law, Jason and Tracy Clark. His greatest treasures, five grandchildren, Madison, Reagan and Dale Roger Neugebauer and Brody and Connor Jenkins. He is also survived by two sisters, Goldie Cowling and Sue Thompson and her husband Don.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a step-son Chad Clark, two nephews, Cory and Lance Cowling and a brother-in-law Lyle Cowling.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation at 1332 N. Halsted St., Suite 201; Chicago, IL 60622 or to the American Cancer Society, Comanche County Unit at 1320 NW Homestead Drive, Lawton, OK 73505.
