Floyd Hurshell Whiteside

Shawnee resident Floyd Hurshell Whiteside, 83, passed away Monday, March 30, 2009, in Oklahoma City.

Floyd was born July 24, 1925, in Anna, Texas, to A.C. Whiteside and Ona Mae [Clark] Whiteside.

He attended Anna Grammar School in Anna, Texas.

In 1942 he served in the United States Navy for 28 days then switched over to the United States Marines and served from 1942-1953. He served in World War II and the Korean conflict, and was ranked as a Sargeant.

Floyd was a cook most of his life and loved to fix food for people, and people loved his food too! He worked in the oil field in the eighties, did a lot of different jobs, and wasn't afraid of work.

He loved to go to church and was a member of Oak Park Church of God. He always wanted to hear his grandson play on his guitar, and hear the good singing at church. He loved the Lord and was ready to be with him.

Floyd never met a stranger and was always friendly. He would give anyone the shirt off of his back.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and two sisters. He is survived by two daughters, Jackie McNeese of the Philippines, and Beth Whiteside of Shawnee; one son, Chris Whiteside and wife Pam of Shawnee; four grandsons, Troy, Travis, Dakota, and Dalton; four granddaughters, Macee, Toby, Tony, and Traci, and a host of great and great-great grandchildren. Service is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday April 3, 2009, at Oak Park Church of God with the Rev. Leroy Kerbo officiating.

Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin, Okla., under the direction of Walker Funeral Service.
