Life Reflections

Jeanetta Gaffney was born March 29, 1947 in Hugo, Oklahoma to the late Doris Harris. She made her transition on Thursday morning September 11, 2014 in Lawton, Oklahoma with her family at her side.

Jeanetta graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in May 1966, and on September 11, 1966 married her High School Sweetheart Benny Gaffney. To this union two children were born, Bobby Lamont and Bennard Lemone.

In 1967 Benny was drafted into the Army and after Basic Training and A.I.T.he was sent to Vietnam while Jeanetta remained in Hugo. Upon returning from Vietnam they came to Fort Sill. They went to Germany twice, Ft Lewis Washington and then returned to Ft Sill where they settled and retired in Lawton, in 1989.

Jeanetta worked for the Army Air Force Exchange System for over 23 years until her medical retirement, she then became a full time wife, mother and grandmother. Jeanetta enjoyed supporting her children and grandchildren, attending many of their sporting events and other functions whenever possible. Everyone who knew her, loved her.

Jeanetta accepted Christ at an early age in Hugo, OK . When she moved to Lawton she united with St. Elmo Baptist church under the Pastorialship of the late Rev. William A. Haynes and later under the Pastorialship of Rev. David Cavitt. There she became a Christian warrior, serving as Tribe Leader and treasurer for the Mission society and also serving as the Usher Board Vice-President. She remained faithful to her duty until the Lord called her home.

Cherishing her memory are the survivors: her husband of 48-years, Benny Gaffney ,of Lawton,Ok. two Sons: Bobby Gaffney (Michelle) Norman,OK; Bennard Gaffney Lawton, Ok; three sisters: Joyce (Harold) Holman of Killeen TX.; Shirley Biggers of Paris, TX.; Gwendolyn (Delbert) Allen Lawton, OK.; one Brother: James (Madine) Harris of Las Vegas, NV.; four grandchildren : Braedon Gaffney , Breaon Gaffney , Bently Gaffney, all of Norman OK.; and Cameron Gaffney of Lawton, OK. : A special aunt: Violet (Otis) Reed Dallas, TX; Sue Byars Lawton, OK; two uncles: Royal Nelson, Dallas TX. Ricky Harris (Patricia) OKC, OK; a host of cousins, nephews, nieces, in-laws, extended family and friends, which includes her caring Church Family from St Elmo Baptist Church.

Jeanetta was preceded in death by her mother, Doris Harris; one brother, Kenneth (Sobo) Harris; one sister, Marilyn Harris.
