Charles R. Fittery

Graveside service for Charles R. Fittery, 72, Lawton, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, with Chaplain Capt. Craig Ludwig officiating.

Mr. Fittery died Thursday, August 24, 2006, in a local hospital.

Burial will be under the direction of Becker Funeral Home.

He was born August 14, 1934, in Huntingdon, Pa., to Russell R. and Lena Marie Porter Fittery.

He attended and graduated from school in Huntingdon.

He married Ethel Elisabeth Cook in Huntingdon. She died in May 1962.

He served in the Army and was a veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired after 20 years of service. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal, the Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service at Fort Sill and other awards and medals throughout his career.

He received an associate of science and bachelor of science degrees from Cameron University.

After retirement from the Army, he was employed by the Oklahoma State Department of Corrections as a correctional officer. He also was employed as a security guard for Affiliated Van Lines.

Survivors include three daughters: Mary Lee Evans, Deepwater, N.J., Shirley Ann Allen, Lawton, and Patti Lynn Cook, Irwin, Pa.; seven sisters: Yvonne Lightner, Bonnieville, Ky., Eileen Cagle, Enstes, Fla., Betty Stone, Clara Rightmyer, Sharon Buss, Darlene Fittery, all of Baltimore, Md., and Melinda Sledge, Star City, Alaska; and a brother, Charles Krepps, Seaford, Del.; a grandson, Christopher Chance Allen, Lawton; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a daughter, Bobbi Jo Fliflet.
