Delmar Kenneth "Del" File

Death date: February 2, 2014

Delmar K. "Del" File was born on September 11, 1935 in Grisham Township, IL to Roy V. and Sarah [Compton] File. He died on February 2, 2014 in Lawton, OK at the age of 78.

Graveside services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, February 5, 2014 at Ft Sill National Cemetery with Chaplain CPT Andrew Dressler, officiating. Burial will be with Full Military Honors. Visitation is scheduled for Tuesday evening from 6-8 PM at Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Home.

Del was raised and attended school in the Alton, IL area.

After graduation from high school, he enlisted in the US Army and served his country for the next 21 years at home and overseas, including two tours of duty in Vietnam where he was awarded three Bronze Star Medals. Other commendations included the Army Commendation Medal with an Oak Leaf Cluster, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation (26th FA USARPAC), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, and 5 Good Conduct Medals.

Del retired in 1977 while stationed at Ft Sill. He spent the next 15 years working for Lawton Public Schools where he retired as Maintenance Supervisor.

Through the years, Del never lost a love for the outdoors, spending spare time hunting, fishing and camping; however, in the more recent years, indoor activities were more to his liking (spending time at the casino).

Del is survived by his wife Ollie; 2 daughters, Denise Dauzy and husband Mike of Lawton and Missy File of Hawaii; 2 sons, Mike File of Killeen, TX and Robert File and wife Brigitte of Lawton; Ollie's children, Brenda Barnes and husband Mitch, in Arkansas, Jimmey McMullin, also of Arkansas, and Donna Edwards of Lawton; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

Del was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, and Ollie's son, Gregory McMullin. An online guestbook may be signed and condolences sent by visiting: www.whineryhuddleston.com.
