Tony Curry

"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept my faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness..." 2 Timothy 4:7-8.

Tony Curry, 66, was born in Brewton, Alabama on November 21, 1949 to Fannie Mae Curry, along with two younger brothers, Robert and Rickey. He was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 2, 2016.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at 11:00am at Harvest Plenty House of Prayer, Lawton. Burial with full military honors will follow at Fort Sill National Cemetery, Elgin, under direction of Whinery-Huddleston Funeral Service.

Tony attended Southern Normal High School and graduated in 1970. As a young man, he excelled in playing basketball. That same year, he proposed to his high school sweetheart and married Vermell Crosby on December 31, 1970.

Nineteen-seventy was a busy year for Tony because he was drafted into the U.S. Army. Tony served in the U.S. Army for 23 years. He retired as SSG Tony Curry in 1993. During his service, he served in Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. He was awarded an Army Commendation Medal, a Southwest Asian Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, a National Defense Service Medal along with various honors.

In 1973, the couple gave birth to their first child, Anthony. In 1975, they gave birth to their oldest daughter, Tonetta. The following year, Stacy was born. Two years later, the couple gave birth to another daughter, Keesa. Eight years later, they couple had their last child, Shinice.

Tony's pride and joy are his grandchildren. He loved spending his days attending events and supporting them in their many endeavors. To the very end, he made sure to let them know how much he loved them and how proud he was of them.

After retiring from the military, Tony drove buses for Greyhound and LATS. His most enjoyable driving experience, however, was driving the school bus for Lawton Public Schools.

Tony Curry was a member of Harvest Plenty House of Prayer Church, where he served as a Deacon, on the Board of Trustees, Usher board President, Transportation Coordinator, and Finance Officer.

He is preceded in death by his son, Anthony RayShawn Curry, his mother Fannie Mae Curry, and his younger brother, Robert Pedro Curry.

Tony is survived by his loving wife, Vermell Curry, his daughters Tonetta Curry, Stacy (Tashumbi) Taylor, Keesa Wallace, Shinice Curry and adoptive daughter Karen Evanson. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Vikeeta (LaDarius) Walton, Tre Curry, Shnazya Wallace, TyVon Curry, AneShae Smith, Shuntiera Curry, Trinity Taylor, A'Torcia Smith, Shakyra Banks, Tyjhiem Taylor and Kamden Curry, along with his great-grandchildren, KeMya Davis and A'Kerion Walton.

Tony has left a legacy and will never be forgotten, for "in my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also." John 14:2 -3
