Lillie Mae Benson

The funeral for Lillie Mae Benson, 79, of Kingfisher, will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at Calument United Methodist Church. The Rev. Nicole Benson will officiate. Burial will be in Fort Sill National Cemetery. Arrangements are by Russworm Funeral Home, Watonga.

She was born March 2, 1930, to Joe and Carrie Arther and died Friday, April 10, 2009, in Oklahoma City.

She was raised and educated in Geary, graduating from Douglas High School in 1948. She attended Lincoln College, Kansas City, Mo.

She married Alfonso Benson Sr. Aug. 23, 1949. She worked 33 years for Safeway stores in Kansas City, Kan., and California, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church, Geary, where she was an ordained deaconess and served on the usher board. She was a member of YWCA treasure, Douglas Alumni and was a reporter for Katie's FCC. She had been a resident of Kingfisher Cimarron Nursing Home since December 2004.

Surviving are her husband, Alfonso; one brother, Ariece Arther; one daughter, Beverly Ann Faumui; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
