Michael Ray Arnold

ENID, Okla. - Michael R. Arnold, 66, of Oklahoma City, died Monday, Dec. 24, 2012, after a long illness. He was born Oct. 31, 1946, in Newbern, N.C. to Oliver Orrin and Vivian Joy Arnold.

He played basketball and quarterbacked Enid High School's 1965 state football championship team, earning All-State honors, and held Enid's passing record for 40 years, which Austin Box tied. He was also a quarterback at Oklahoma State University.

Mike was a captain in the U.S. Army, served in Vietnam and Germany.

He retired from Kerr-McGee Oil Co. after 27 years' service, many working with foreign crude.

Mike married Linda Smith Hale in October 1980. He was active in Junior Achievement. Mike was very proud of co-founding Michael's Friends and the Dolphin Swim Team, organizations for individuals with special needs, with wife Linda and BJ Cowden (sister-in-law).

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister-in-law.

Mike is survived by his wife, Linda and son Michael of the home; two daughters, Michelle (Kevin) Carolan of Chandler, Ariz., and Stephanie (Rusty) Long of Oklahoma City; two sisters, Pat (Richard) Gearheard of Fort Collins, Colo., and Marsha (Mark) Lastwika of Henderson, Nev.; brother, John (Karen) Arnold of Enid, Okla.; and brother-in-law, Dewaine (Lina) Smith of Wichita, Kan. Mike had three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, 16 nieces and nephews, and many friends. He was loved and will be greatly missed.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 5, 2013, at Mercer Adams Funeral Home, Bethany, Okla. A graveside military service in Fort Sill National Cemetery, Lawton, Okla., will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 7, 2013.
