Herman Lee Ahlborn Sr.
Birth date: August 22, 1929
Death date: October 27, 2014


First Sergeant (Ret.) Herman Ahlborn, 85, passed away Monday, Oct. 27, 2014 in Lawton, OK.

He was born Aug. 22, 1929 to Willie and Pearl [Jones] Ahlborn in Broken Arrow.

Herman was a combat veteran of WWII and Korea. He was a Master Parachutist with 112 jumps. During his career he was awarded several Bronze Stars and three Silver Stars. Herman's military career of twenty- three years spanned being in both the Navy and Army.

He met Gertrude Barfrieder in Ansbach, Germany. On May 2, 1957, he married Gertrude, the love of his life, in Ansbach. They enjoyed 57 years with each other.

Upon retirement from the service, building quality homes became his passion. It was his life. He constructed homes in the Kiowa and Comanche counties, to include Lawton and Apache and surrounding areas. Herman also enjoyed building furniture. He had a fervor for doing things right.

After retiring again, Herman enjoyed running his trotline and repairing small engines in his shop at the lake. He enjoyed his family, the military, building homes, and life itself.

Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Herman Lee "Tony" Ahlborn Jr. of Sapulpa; Ronny Camilo Ahlborn and wife Donna of Lawton; and Steven Dale Ahlborn and wife Ronell of Fletcher; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Young.

Memorials:
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations in Herman's honor be sent to the Lawton Veteran Center on Flower Mound Road.
