Ret. MSG Franklin D.R. Newkirk

September 15, 1943 - January 22, 2019

Retired MSG Franklin D.R. Newkirk was born September 15, 1943 in Lakeland, Florida to the late Willie C. Newkirk and Doretha Barnes Newkirk. He graduated in 1961 from Rochelle High in Lakeland. He immediately entered the US Army starting his devoted military service of 23 years, serving in Korea, Europe and Vietnam then retiring in 1983. Franklin then started to work for Civil Services and continued for 27 years, retiring in 2013. He met his wife, YouVonne Green in 1964 and married in Newark, New Jersey on September 5, 1967. They were married over 51 years and blessed with one son, Franklin D.R. Newkirk, Jr. Franklin accepted Christ at an early age. He was a very devoted husband and father and loved his country and his Church. He attended Frontier Chapel Gospel Service since 1997. After a long illness, Franklin was called home to be with the Lord on Tuesday morning January 22, 2019.
Franklin leaves to cherish his loving memories a devoted and loving wife, YouVonne Newkirk and his loving son Bishop Franklin D.R. Newkirk, Jr, both of Lawton; 2 brothers, Willie C. Newkirk Jr and Eddie Newkirk; 3 sisters, Marie and Pedro Villeronga, Irene and Ben Conner and Viola Walker all of Lakeland, Florida; his sisters in law, Maggie (Rudolph) Mickens and her husband Jesse of Junction City, Kansas, Brenda and James Chapman of Newark, Delaware; his brothers in law, Leon and Marilyn Green of East Brunswick, NJ, Randy and Brenda Green of North Carolina, Hiram and Janet Cuff Green and Herman and Linda Green, all from Plainfield, NJ.
Franklin is preceded in death by his parents, Willie C. and Doretha Newkirk; his brother, Charles Newkirk; his sisters, Dorothy Lamar Newkirk Governor and Jessie May Drayton; his mother and father in law, Helen Kirby and Randolph Green; and his sister in law, Burnell Johnson-Thomas.
