Rafael Acosta, Sr.

February 7, 1943 ~ April 15, 2009

Rafael Luis Acosta, Sr. was born February 7, 1943 in Puerto Rico and was reborn in 1991 at St. John's Missionary Baptist Church.
Rafael joined the US Army in 1965, where he served 13 years. He completed two tours in Vietnam, one tour in Korea and one tour in Panama. He received the National Defense Service Medal, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Drivers Badge, the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation with Palm, the Vietnam Service Medal, the Overseas Service Bars (3), the Drivers Mechanic Medal, the Good Conduct Medal (3), the Vietnam Counteroffensive, the Vietnam Counteroffensive Ph II, the Consolidation I, the Consolidation II and the Vietnam Cease Fire Ribbon. Rafael then served 17 years in the Civil Service, totaling 30 years of service to our country, before retiring.
Rafael joined St. John's Missionary, Bus Ministry, Singles Ministry, Nursing Home Ministry, Mobile Meals Ministry and the Brotherhood.
In 1994, Rafael and Doris joined into a spiritual union. Their journey together enhanced each other's spiritual walk with God, during their 17 years together.
Rafael leaves behind his wife Doris; son and daughter-in-law, Rafael Jr. and Joy; daughter and fiance, Carla and Frederick; daughter and son-in-law, Clarice and William; stepchildren: Michael and Nathaniel; daughters, Tarah, Juanita, Shannon and Gabrielle; granchildren: Shontal, Anthony, Omni, Dominique, Rafael III, Dashawn, K'Terri, Tre'Quan, Malik, Toyionne, Shalana, Josh, DeJon, Daisjah, Maya, Darion, K'Shawn, Caleb, Elise, Nathaniel Jr., Desiree, Abrielle, Legend, Crystal Lynn and King David; great grandchildren: Amor and Joi; grandpets: Dollar and Snoopy.
Rafael was preceded in death by his mother Manuelai Acosta.
