John Robert Mahaffey

Birth date: March 6, 1999
Death date: January 2, 2014

John Robert Mahaffey was born on March 6, 1999 in Lawton, OK to Don and Anne [Hysong] Mahaffey. He died on January 2, 2014 in Oklahoma City, OK at the age of 14.

John was living in the Cache/Indiahoma area and attended Cache middle school where he was an 8th grader in Mrs. Baltierra's special education class.

John was born with Downs Syndrome, but his love for people and friendly nature far overcame any setbacks this condition might create. His outgoing personality prompted him to welcome everyone with his friendly smile and offer you his hand in greeting.

John loved music (especially blue grass and country music) and often entertained his family or classmates with his "crazy legs" dance. He participated in the Special Olympics in the spring and was a member of the Hammer Heads Special Olympics swim team.

John attended Immanual Baptist Church with his Granny Linda every Sunday, and without a doubt, is smiling and shaking hands with all the Angels in Heaven as we miss this innocent, happy little man. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, LTC (ret) William and Carol Mahaffey, and SFC (ret) James D. Hysong.

Left to miss his smile and loving nature are his parents, Don and Anne [Hysong] Mahaffey of Cache; his Granny,Linda Hysong of Lawton; uncles, David Mahaffey of Buffalo, OK, Will Mahaffey of Rogers, AR, and Tom Hysong and his wife Lacretia of Chattanooga; aunts, Lena Gwinn and husband Dennis of Ralls, TX and Diana Blackwell of Beaumont, TX; cousins, Brian Huddleston, Charlie Gwinn and Taylor Hysong; a special "Almost Aunt", Keri Brammer of Lawton; special friends Andy and Marci Vanover of Lawton; and of course his school family, Mrs. Baltierra, MS Sylvia,MS Karen, and classmates Destiny, Skyla and Trent.

John's online guest book may be signed and condolences sent by visiting: www.whineryhuddleston.com.

Memoral contrubations to be made to OK Children's Hospital.
