Pine Cemetery Outhouse Bio

A brief story about the Man who built the Pine Cemetery Outhouse.

This outhouse was built by L. B. Rogers, son of James Robert Rogers and Elsie Virginia (Hicks) Rogers. L. B. or Bill as he was known by family and friends took care of a lot of the cemeteries in northern Coal County along side his father as young child. After he returned from WW II and made his home in the Pine community he continued to care for the cemeteries, doing whatever necessary to keep them clean and maintained. There are many small cemeteries that are abandoned now that have only one family in them that Bill cared for. One gentleman lost his entire family and asked Bill to take care of them which he did until his death.

When Bill built a new home in the late 1990's he rocked it with rocks found around his home. He also built a rock fence using post made from cedars close to his home. To finish the look he built this outhouse. Bill would gather wild flowers from the nearby meadows and replant them around his yard. He wanted his home to resemble his parents home place. No purchased flowers or vegetables plants were ever there. Seeds from past planting were saved and planted the following year.

After his death, his daughter, Billie Jean Sanford, donated the outhouse to the Pine Cemetery and had it moved to the cemetery. She still maintains the outhouse at the age of 72. She has replaced a few of the wood shingles that her father hand made. She keeps it painted with a water seal. Billie Jean is greatly appreciated.

The Pine Cemetery is very fortunate to have this small part of history. Yes, it is a 2 holer. I am very fortunate to be able to call this man "Uncle Bill".
