Funeral services for Charles Ned McKenzie, a Coalgate resident, were held Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Brown's Funeral Chapel in Coalgate with Rev. Bill Weathers officiating. Burial was in Coalgate Cemetery with Brown's Funeral Service of Coalgate in charge of arrangements.

Charles Ned McKenzie was born December 23, 1954 in Wellington, Kansas to Charles and Nina McKenzie and passed away on January 26, 2010 at Norman Regional Hospital at the age of 55. He attended school in Arizona, Edmond and Coalgate, Oklahoma. He graduated from Coalgate High School and continued his education at East Central University and earned both an undergraduate and graduate degree in psychology. Ned was an active member of the Phi Tau Fraternity. He worked as a Licensed Professional Counselor with the Choctaw Nation Health System in Talihina, Oklahoma. He also provided counseling services for the Oklahoma City Indian Urban Clinic, Dallas Inter-Tribal Health Clinic and Chickasaw Nation Health Systems. He was devoted to his work as a counselor, always putting others needs before his own. This was evidenced by the overwhelming and much appreciate visitors and calls received from friends and collegues while he was in the hospital.

Ned lived an exciting and rewarding life. During his younger days he was a bull rider on the rodeo circuit. He won several bull riding championships during his career including one of his proudest, the West Coast Open. He was also a trainer and competitor on the professional polo circuit, traveling around the world training horses and competing. His other passion was golf. He spent as much time as he could around the country. His last tournament was in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Most of all, his greatest and proudest accomplishments were his daughters, Mary Jade and Charlie Madison McKenzie.

He is survived by his daughters, Mary Jade McKenzie and Charlie Madison McKenzie both of Ada; and thier mother Becky McKenzie; his mother, Nina Johnston of Coalgate; three sisters, Millie Blackmon of Seminole, Barbara Welge of El Reno and LaDonna Ott and husband Vincent of Coalgate; nephews, Jeffrey Blackmon and Michael Welge; nieces, Jennifer Nichols and Lisa Blackmon-Hansard; great nephews Cameron and Tayden Hansard and numerous aunts, uncles and many dear and loved friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles McKenzie; stepfather, Wayne Johnston; maternal grandparents, Abe and Lena Ned and paternal grandparents, Orville and Anna McKenzie.

Pallbearers were nephews, Jeffrey Blackmon, Michael Welge, and David Hansard, brothers-in-law Vincent Ott and golf buddies and friends, Clay Ward and Ron McIntosh. Honorary bearers were Mickey Peercy, Roy Don Blackmon, Cody McDaniel and Tom Shultz.

Ned will be greatly missed by farmily, friends, collegues and patients.
