Arthur “Art” John Snowdon went to be with the Lord on October 4, 2016 at 9:45 AM.  Art passed quietly and peacefully while at his home in Norman after fighting a long-term battle with COPD.  Services will be held at Trinity Baptist Church in Norman at 2:00 PM on Friday, October 7, 2016.  Associate Pastor Ryan Polk will officiate the services.

Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Park in Norman. 
The family will receive visitors during a viewing at Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman on Thursday, October 6, from 6:00-7:30 PM.

Art was born January 3, 1932 in Trenton, Michigan to Ralph E. and Mary S. Snowdon.  He was 84 years old and loved his family, friends, Sunday school class, and his Lord.  Art married Naomi L. Gill of Norman, Oklahoma on February 2, 1957 (Groundhog Day) so that he wouldn’t forget his anniversary.  Art and Naomi were happily married 59 years, and would have been married 60 years this February.  Art always said that they never had an argument; they just had “occasional intense moments of fellowship”.

Art was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Mary, brother Elsdon, sisters Monica and Sylvia, and his oldest son, James Curtis. 

He is survived by his wife Naomi, his brother Ernie Snowdon, his daughter Marikka Denise Foreman and her husband David Foreman, his son Michael John Snowdon and wife Shannon, five grandchildren: Joshua Foreman and wife Heather, Andrew Foreman and wife Karen, Taylor Snowdon, Kiley Snowdon, and Cole Snowdon, two step-great grandsons, Nicholas Jandreau and Cody Lacey, two great grandsons, Cody and Jacob, and great granddaughter Hailey Foreman.

Art was a veteran in the US Navy as a radioman from 1950-1959.  With the exception of two years in shore, Art spent his remaining eight years in the Navy at sea.  He served during the entire Korean War on numerous ships.  During his service, he pre-commissioned the U.S.S. Intrepid CVA-11, which is now a floating library in the New York harbor.  The last ship he served on was the U.S.S. Northampton CLC-1.  This was a communication ship of the commander of the second fleet. 

In 1961, Art went to work at Tinker AFB.  He was part of the team who installed the first communication computer.  He retired in 1987 with 38 years of service as a Communication Computer Specialist.  From 1961-1990, he worked two jobs to support his family.  He was a Gardner in Norman for Mr. and Mrs. Earl Sneed, then worked at the Sooner Bowling Alley in Norman until it closed, and then worked at the Moore Bowling Alley until he retired in 1990. 
Art and Naomi wanted to travel and they did.  They traveled with Naomi’s brother Harold and his wife Betty.  They were good traveling companions and traveled together for nearly 3 years.  They loved camping, fishing, crafts, and Gospel music.  After they quit traveling, Art became restless at home.  So, Art went to work at Wal-Mart on the west side of Norman.  He was a door greeter in the garden center; it was a great place to work.  This store was a family and Art loved everyone there and regretted having to leave, but he knew his illness was taking its toll.
